Central Air Conditioning for Dummies

Parts of a central air conditioning system
Parts of a central air conditioning system
Next to misinformation, plain and simple, the second greatest sin of the money-hungry freelancer has to be spun content. Where the misinformers take on subjects outside their experience and make a mess of facts and figures, spinners just take the words of another and run them through a synonym-generation app. Spinners with good writing skills can carry this off as long as they don't mung up the facts. Spinners who lack the skills -- many of them, apparently, based in non-English-speaking countries -- just pump out pure drivel. Take, for instance, InfoBarrel.com's vilhuman1975, addressing the topic of "Considerations For Central Air Conditioning."¹

Take a look at some of the bullshit that came out of Vil's spinner algorithm:
  • "...owning air conditioning system is a milestone in creating a breathtaking environment where one can sit back and relax..."
  • "Nonetheless, these conditioners are used to de-humidify."
  • "Another factor that has been overseen by many is the orientation of the house."
  • "The age of the house reflects the placement of the windows and doors..."
There's more - much, much more - of this type of bullshit in Mr. Human's (or is it Mr. 1975's?) content. He also spins the facts out of some content, ending up with such misinformation as

"An air conditioner employed should be sufficient in relation to the size of the house. A unit with a larger capacity than required may render the house moist. On the other hand, a unit with a lesser capacity may not offer the sought comfort and even coolness."
We assume it's Mr. Human's unfamiliarity with the topic -- or perhaps it's the language -- that has him saying that an oversized unit may "render the house moist."  We wouldn't say "render" in this context -- "leave" the house humid might work, though, since the conditioner doesn't add humidity, it just doesn't remove all the humidity like a properly-sized A/C unit would.

Vilhuman1975 exemplifies the sin of spun content, taking someone else's words and simply changing verbs, adjectives, adverbs and nouns to near-synonyms more or less at random. The resulting content is bullshit, which is more than sufficient to make the guy a prime candidate for Dumbass of the Day.
