Gutters for Dummies

Leaky downspout
There are probably worse places on the internet to look for home maintenance advice than eHow.com, but no one here at the Antisocial Network knows where they are.... except we're pretty sure Bubblews.com would have been a good candidate before it folded up its metaphorical tent. If you do look for home maintenance advice at eHow.com, you'd be wise to steer clear of anything written by serial dumbass Lacy Enderson, author (we use the word loosely) of such rubbish as "How to Fix Gutters."¹

If you needed advice about your gutters, would you want it from someone who thinks that
"Rain gutters installed along the perimeter of your roof provide a water runoff so water doesn't pool on your house"?
ON your house? Really? Doesn't gravity do a pretty good job of preventing water pooling on a house (actually, a roof) already? Isn't the main purpose of rain gutters something like, oh, we dunno, preventing rainwater from pooling around the foundation? What a dumbass! Or how about this piece of "information"?
"Gutters come seamless or sectional. The sectional gutters are easier for homeowners to install. The seamless gutters require a little more professionalism for installation. Gutters come in a variety of different shapes, sizes and colors, so finding gutters to match your home is easy."
We found that "...a little more professionalism..." bull quite amusing. And then there are the "instructions": of course, since Lacy has no idea what she's talking about, she goes into great detail (copied, reworded, and pasted from elsewhere) about a very specific technique – patching a hole. There's no mention whatsoever of other common problems, including sagging gutters, clogged downspouts, or misdirected water.

Nope, Lacy's up to her usual dumbass tricks: collecting cash for "freelance writing" on a topic about which she knew nothing before doing her "research." Typical Lacy, typical Dumbass of the Day, typical eHow.
