Home Repair for DIY Dummies

Yeah, this one needs repair...
It's said that a house is the most expensive thing most people will ever own. What isn't usually mentioned is that maintaining that home is one of the reasons it's so expensive. That's probably why so many websites are jammed with do-it-yourself information (some of it pretty bad). But what if you're not a toolhead? What if you can't tell a flange from a frammis? (hint: there are flanges, but there's no such thing as a frammis) Have no fear, InfoBarrel.com's reagenaguda is here to advise you in "Home Repairs: When to Call an Expert."

OK, we'll grant, grudgingly, that Reagan is on the right track, and even did a fairly good job of spinning this content (awkward wording such as...
"Don’t be too affected if you need to ask for help; you might look at home repair as the Kryptonite to your superhero."
...is a dead giveaway that it's spun). What gets us is the dumbassery of the questions Aguda says to ask yourself:
  1. Do you know how to repair it?
  2. Would hiring a service man cost a lot?
  3. Is there value in fixing it?
  4. How hazardous is the job?
That's pretty hilarious when you think about it: after all, numbers 2 and 3 are the reason why most people perform DIY repairs: money. And that first question? WTF does Reagan think has made all those sites like eHow so popular? What a dumbass.

We found some advice particularly amusing, such as
"Most home repair jobs do have a certain degree of danger, some being more risky than others."
Clearly, advice from someone who forgot that cooking, taking a bath, and mowing the yard all have a "certain degree of danger," yet millions of people are performing those tasks this very minute. Sheesh. And Aguda (not really all that "acute," if you ask us) closes with this wisdom:
"Remember, unless you actually know how to DIY, then your DIYing skills can only go so far."

That last doesn't make a whole lot of sense, does it? but, then, neither does anything else in this Dumbass of the Day content.
