Coprophagia for Dummies

A dog-proof litter box
In the never-ending quest for pennies, internet freelancers will visit any topic that looks like it might prove lucrative. Today, we'll look at a member of WritEdge.com who figured that if Americans spend billions annually on their pets, she should have a slice of that pie, even if she doesn't know cat poop from Shinola®. Here's what Sharon Katzman had to say in instructing her legion of readers about "Making a Dog Proof Litter Box" (note to Sharon: research hyphenation... apostrophes, too)
"For those that live with cats and dogs, keeping their dogs out of the litter box can be a struggle.   You may wonder why the dog is interested in the litter box, but the reason is that they are looking for more protein.   Dog food does not tend to have much protein in it, unlike cat food, mainly as dogs do not need as much protein.  If the cat food is not fully digested, the dog is able to eat it and get some protein from it."
Hmmm, that's interesting – wrong, but interesting. Rather than believing what some money-grubbing freelancer (who also pesters people in "direct sales") says about cat-poop consumption among canines, let's see what people who actually know cat shit (we mean the ASPCA there...) say about this normal, if undesirable, behavior.
"It’s unknown why adult dogs, maintained on nutrient-rich, balanced diets, ingest their own feces or the feces of other carnivores. It’s believed that it’s part of the dog’s natural behavior in evolutionary history."

As usual, half-assed research. What's worse is that Sharon's plans for a dog-proof litter box are, to be frank, pretty shitty. For her failures, Sharon is our Dumbass of the Day. Hell, you can buy a GREAT dog-proof litter box on-line and not have to destroy a plastic storage tub...
