Windows 10 for Dummies

Windows 10
Got that free upgrade to Windows 10 yet? Pulled the trigger on the process? Here at the Antisocial Network, we registered for the upgrade, but didn't install the new OS. We had questions, mostly about performance: Is the 2.50GHz/3.50GHz Intel core duo in the office laptop fast enough? Is the on-board 6 GB of RAM sufficient? Would this be an improvement over the current 64-bit copy of Windows 7 Home? Well, asking Alexandria Ingham at WritEdge sure wasn't much help: her "Windows 10 Review: My First Thoughts After Upgrading"¹ just... didn't work for us. [As an aside, neither did the upgrade: we tried, and then deleted it.]

Ingham, who's everywhere telling you how to make money on the internet, kicks into stream-of-consciousness mode for her "review." We learn all about her computing habits, but don't get jack about the computer she upgraded; except that it's "a laptop." Oh, as is par for the course for people faking tech-savvy, there's plenty of suspect information, such as
"It makes sense that things start to run slower as newer operating systems are released."
No, it doesn't, Alexandria. It might make sense that "things start to run slower" as new versions of your software are released, or as you install more and more junk (e.g., Spotify) on your system - but not with the release of a new OS. She also tells us that
"Usually I leave [my laptop] on standby, which isn’t good for it."
Really? That's not what experts tell us...

Ingham has tons of information for us about how pretty the interface is -- she likes to call it "stylish," apparently because "stylish" lands higher in SERP than "pretty" -- but other than that, the so-called review is pretty much bereft of information. Oh, yeah, we learn that her computer "started up much quicker" -- even she admits (in a roundabout way) that how much of any speedup is a result of disk cleanup is an open question.

No, where Alexandria fails her many readers is pretty simple: the only thing she says about the CPU she upgraded is that it's a laptop that had been running Windows 7. Sheesh: assuming she knows how, Ingham could have easily pulled up the system description and compared her configuration to the Windows 10 minimum (which she also didn't mention); but she didn't. So, is that laptop a 2014 Alienware? or a 2007 Gateway with a Pentium chip? Who knows...

And really - are the only improvements in Windows 10 its stylishness and a possible faster cold reboot? What about processing speed, file handling, memory usage and the actual utility of that stylish interface? This "review" leaves all our questions unanswered, since superficial bullshit about stylishness is for dumbasses, such as our Dumbass of the Day: that'd be you, Alexandria.
