Camry Cooling Systems, the Dummy Version

replace-radiator-cooling-fan
Yup, just slap your wrench on, right Emile?
You find ectoplasmic beings roaming your house, who you gonna call? Ghostbusters, of course! You discover that the radiator fan on your car doesn't run, who you gonna call? Well, as far as we know there's no "fanbusters" out there, so you're probably going to look for an auto mechanic. We know we'd prefer to get our DIY car-fixing advice from someone with grease under his nails instead of a guy who thinks he's a "professional writer" because he published in a student newspaper... but eHow.com let Emile Heskey (no, not the famous footballer) pretend to help you solve your problem in "The Cooling Fans Won't Run in a Camry."¹ Bad choice, eHow...

Heskey (if that's who this is) demonstrates a total ignorance of Camrys – of cars in general – almost immediately; explaining that
"As with most car parts, fixing a small, inexpensive problem can prevent a large expensive problem, and this certainly is true of an engine cooling fan..."
...although one might need to know Emile's definition of "inexpensive" to be sure. Be that as it may. Heskey's solution to the problem is quite simple:
  1. Buy a new fan
  2. Take the old fan out
  3. Put a new fan in
  4. Tada, you're done.
But of course you aren't done -- you see, the cooling fan may be perfectly functional while some other problem prevents it from running. Perhaps the temperature sending unit is faulty; maybe the relay is hosed, it could be that the thermostat is stuck open. Hell, it could be something as simple as a blown fuse -- but as far as Emile is concerned, putting in a new fan (and potentially a new fan housing) will get you back on the streets of Soho in no time.

Oh, yeah, and this moron thinks all you need to remove and replace a radiator cooling fan assembly is "a wrench," and that someone could actually somehow confuse the wiring harness attachments. What an ass. It's a shame people ever look to eHow for advice when they can find simple and far more useful advice elsewhere; like here...

Hell, Heskey doesn't even mention that a radiator cooling fan isn't supposed to run all the time -- did he even think of that? Probably another rhetorical question... So, here's what you do: you ignore the kind of crap published by Emile, our Dumbass of the Day, and head on over to anywhere else. Then maybe you'll get help.
