Troubleshooting John Deere Snowblowers for Dummies

Troubleshoot your snowblower
You'd think that if someone googled "Problems with a John Deere Snowblower," the poor frozen schmuck would be looking for a little help troubleshooting a machine that either doesn't start or does a lousy job of clearing away the snow on his driveway (if he's like our neighbors at Antisocial Network HQ, he doesn't bother with sidewalks...). That's what you probably think, that's certainly what our research staffer thought... it's not, however, what Christine Lebednik seemed to think – at least according to her post at Hunker.com, anyway.

No, Lebenik decided that the guy (or gal) was considering buying a John Deere snowblower and wanted a Consumer Reports version of a review, complete with testing information and maybe even a rating on a one-to-five scale. That's why Christine (aka Kris) went looking for reports of "problems"; much like she did when presented a similar question about Grohe kitchen faucets. Yep, you get a succinct explanation (not) that begins with the comment,
"Reported problems with John Deere snowblowers appear to have a definite association with the manufacture date, specifically, of the particular machine involved. Also, certain model numbers have been more prone to problems. This is because of what is known as rebranding..."
Lebednik then proceeded through a 210-word "explanation" of rebranding before getting to her version of troubleshooting. According to Christine, there are three possible "problems":
  • "Machine Won't Throw Snow Far: ...this particular problem could be caused by clogging in the auger, by a gear box problem, or simply by insufficient horsepower in this particular model."
  • "General Problems: ...the engine of the snowblower would not engage when the user pulled the starter rope... [a] jerking problems on first use and then on the second use that the chute had difficulty turning at all."
  • "Repeated Breakages: ...individual reported that his TRS model John Deere snowblower 'broke one thing after another.'"
Oh, sure, those are "problems"; but we're pretty sure that Lebednik's little post isn't what the OQ wanted when it came to troubleshooting those problems. We're found the subsection about "Repeated Breakages" especially useful... not. Then again, when you ask someone with a BA in English even a semi-technical question, you are pretty much guaranteed a Dumbass of the Day answer.
