Marketing for Dummies

Craftsman Professional brand table saw
The people at google get lots of questions about "what's the difference..." All over the world, folks want to differentiate a meerkat from a muskrat or learn the difference between Qatar and catarrh; so they google it – wouldn't you? Well someone once wanted to know "What Is the Difference Between Craftsman and Craftsman Professional Tools?" and Nicole Papagiorgio of eHow was there to answer at GardenGuides.com – in her dumbass way. Our friend Nicki starts out by informing us that
"...Craftsman has different lines of tools geared for specific uses, most notably its Craftsman and Craftsman professional lines. Depending on your needs, you'll need to understand the difference between the tool lines to determine which is right for you..."
Yeah, really. Since the two differ in cost by about 50%, you'll probably already know which is "right for you."

According to Nicole (not that she knows jack about this), the chief differences between the two lines are
"Craftsman’s professional line is geared towards working professionals who use tools for a living, such as contractors or plumbers. This tool line is smaller than the regular tool line with only 500 tools but also includes lawn and garden equipment."
and
"Craftsman professional tools are distinguishable from regular Craftsman tools by their labeling. While most Craftsman tools carry the Craftsman logo inside of a red rectangle, Craftsman professional tools possess the same red rectangular label with a second, narrow yellow rectangle underneath with the word 'professional' inside of it."
Really? Those are the only differences: the number of tools in the line and the labels? Well, the bottom line is that Craftsman no longer carries many tools in their professional line, but for those they do, the differences are in quality of the materials, manufacturing tolerances, warranty, and several other variables related to the overall quality and longevity of the tool. Oh, yeah – and price. We're pretty sure that the labeling is way down on the list of differences...
Nicole, honey? Here's another Dumbass of the Day award for your mantel, compliments of the Antisocial Network!
