Rock Climbing, the Dummy Version

El Capitan
El Capitan
Our Chairperson and CEO (yes, we have one; he's sometimes known as the chief cook and bottle washer) admits to occasionally wondering what it would be like to go through life as... as what? as disconnected from reality? as the freelancers he sees plying their trade on the net. Never mind the incessant "sharing" of every thought, inspiration, or bowel movement on sites like Facebook, these folks are hell-bent on harvesting pennies on sites like the late, unlamented Bubblews, EliteVisitor and PersonaPaper. Our research team browsed some of the content at PP not long ago and came across a wealth of inanity. Not least among the dumbasses they discovered on their tour of the site was one CountryWine (real name Libby Baez), who shared her thoughts, such as they are, in articles like "Aspiring to Rock Climbing."

The occasion was the completion of the first ever free climb of El Capitan's Dawn Wall in Yosemite National Park (December, 2014 to January, 2015). Two climbers, Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson, needed nineteen days to complete this monumental feat. The following day, Baez had this to say of their effort:
"Yesterday, Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson completed a climb in Yosemite. They took on El Capitan's Dawn Wall which reaches a peak of 3,000 feet. That climb isn't bad at all."
Not bad at all, Libby, not bad at all. We were even more impressed to find out that she – a forty-something grandmother and part-time blogger – was prepared to say...
"[I] really want to prepare for rock climbing as well. It's something that I have been carefully considering for some time... I think I would do just fine. I love hiking as it is..."

Wow, now there's someone who has thought it through... We wonder if Libby plans to cut off part of a finger so she can be just like Caldwell? And people wonder why we find it so easy to discover candidates for the Dumbass of the Day award. Sometimes, believe it or not, the candidates essentially nominate themselves!
