Online reviews are a pet peeve of ours, especially reviews written for money, probably because so many of them are either fake or based entirely on one minute's exposure to the product. The popular wisdom is that reviews of "anything with a cord" are more likely to earn, so total dumbasses desperately seeking pennies have been prone to writing reviews of electronics, vacuum cleaners and power tools about which they know next to nothing - or nothing at all. A dead giveaway is a review that opens with the writer claiming he or she is a total beginner in the field — like the Powerbase Xtreme Hammer Drill review¹ written by Laura Gabrielle at Recommender.com.

Now Laura's written over 600 reviews for the site, the majority of them reviews of various cosmetics. That probably explains why her opening paragraph reads,

"I am definitely not an expert when it comes to DIY and maintenance around the home, but I also don’t shy away when something needs doing, whether it’s as simple as putting up a picture or something more complicated such as making or refurbishing a piece of furniture."
We don't know, but we're pretty sure "making... furniture" qualifies one as a fairly advanced DIY-er; but maybe that's just us. We do like that Laura notes that the drill comes "with a lot of different drill parts," although we'd prefer that our drills came with all their drill parts. Apparently those different drill parts are how...
"...it has a lot of different functions to cope with different surfaces, and various sized drill bits that will cater for most household needs"
We wonder what those "functions" are and, for that matter, "surfaces"... We also wonder whether it's corded or cordless, along with many other basic questions – but we don't expect much out of a "review" that sure looks like Gabrielle put together by lifting individual sentences from a vendor's website, thereby creating a "review" that is in reality worse than useless – and that's the reason she wins our Dumbass of the Day award.
