Sauna, not steam room |
At the height of its... power?... contributors to the website eHow.com managed to concoct some of the most cockamamie bullshit to hit the internet before Russian bots started screwing around with the election of 2016. It wasn't uncommon for some unemployed former journalism or "creative writing" majors to pump out ten or twenty articles in a couple of hours, all happily fact-checked by other former journalism and English majors, all without benefit of knowledge. Some of the worst posts were about how to make something, along the lines of the
Alexis Lawrence (sometimes known as
Alexis LaShea) post "
How to Build an Outdoor Steam Room" at Hunker.com
Around here, we suspect that anyone wanting plans or advice for building their own steam room is likely to already know a great deal more about building than a "
freelance writer, filmmaker and photographer with extensive experience in digital video, book publishing and graphic design," even if she is an "
avid traveler." In other words, the sort of help that Lawrence pretended to supply would probably not be of much use. Just for grins, though, we'll tell you what Alexis said (in her own words):
- "Construct four walls and a ceiling. Use wood." No shit, Sherlock. Should it have a floor, too, hmmmm?
- "Line the inside of the structure with a waterproof substance, such as fiberglass."
- "Construct benches."
- "Attach a door."
- "Install a stove. Place large rocks on top of the stove. "

Yep, that's what she said. No mention of a floor, no mention of dimensions, no mention of anything other than a door, benches, and a stove. Oh, yeah, and she said to get some water, too. What's truly weird about this set of "plans" is that it appears to be for a
sauna, not for a steam room. Oh, well...
The morons who ran eHow actually paid our
Dumbass of the Day (and a lot of other people) for this kind of "advice." Maybe she wasn't such a dumbass, after all...
