Several of the staffers here at the Antisocial Network have their "go-to topics" for days when the eternal search for internet bogosity is going a little too slowly. One of them spent a couple of decades working in the "oil patch," and he says that the odds that a freelancer will "get it right" about the oil industry run about 15:1 against. He's already proven that point more than 30 times. Well, he's here again to present today's DotD to Esther Ejim of WiseGEEK.com for her attempt to explain, "What Is a Petroleum Reservoir?" Dumbassery takes many forms. Some of the recipients of the Antisocial Network's Dumbass of the Day award are incautious in their "research" and some are simply ignorant of the topic. The worst of all, in our unbiased opinion, are those who are willfully ignorant – the ones who believe in conspiracies to "hide truth from the common man" and other bafflingly stupid ideas. Some listen to too many episodes of InfoWars, some are too deeply embedded in their political echo chambers. Some even claim that they're "open-minded" and "well-educated"; people like Vince Summers, spotted blathering about conspiracy theories in an article at PersonaPaper.com he called "Are Scientists Quick to Cover Their Tracks?"

The Young Earth for Creationist Dummies

Today we take a look at the phenomenon of selective blindness, the practice of ignoring anything that does not fit with your preconceived notions. Our DotD today uses the yahoo email address job41 to conceal his name, but, at least according to the scanned letter in the body of his blog post "The Bible and Radiometric dating,"¹ his name might be Scott Taylor. Of course, given the tendency of creationists to endlessly recycle the same bogus information, who knows whether that's his real name: it might even be a pseudonym used to protect him from the well-deserved ridicule of others less blind to facts.
